Several rules for visiting the sauna

When visiting the sauna after a workout, there are some important rules that must be followed:

  • Do not visit the sauna immediately after training. Let the body cool down for 15-20 minutes.
  • Before entering the sauna, take a shower, and dry yourself thoroughly, or better wipe yourself with a towel to sweat faster.
  • Do not sweat with an empty or full stomach. This will tire the body and put unnecessary stress on the heart.
  • Do not enter the sauna in a swimsuit or slippers. The artificial material used in those types of clothing can impede the proper air flow, and provoke localized thermal burns
  • Make short visits to the sauna of 5-15 minutes.

The most important thing to consider when visiting the sauna after a workout is if you feel unwell, immediately go out and lie down for 10-15 minutes, drink some water and try to relax.

How to properly steam in a sauna?

During a sauna session it is more convenient to steam while sitting with your elbows on your knees. After leaving the sauna, a cool shower is recommended, which should last only a few minutes, after which you can re-enter the steam room. This alternation of heating and cooling of the body can be repeated up to 5 times in a row. After leaving the sauna for the last time, make sure to take a shower and rest for 15-20 minutes in a lying position. The best time to go to the sauna is after your evening workout. This will help you to relax and normalize your sleep.

Experienced trainers and sports doctors point out that going to the sauna after every workout is not recommended. Doing this can overwork the body and lead to negative consequences. It is better to attend the sauna once per week, preferably after a light workout. At this moment the body, and especially the cardiovascular system, is not overloaded and can easily tolerate high temperatures.

Many professional athletes love to go to the sauna and encourage others to do so. Sign up for training at the Fight Academy. It has its own sauna with showers available to all club members. Call us by phone or leave a request in the contact form available on the website and we will call you back.
