Functional training is a type of intense exercise aimed at comprehensively strengthening muscles by working with your own body weight, or using sports equipment. The workouts are built on the principle of gradual inclusion of increasingly more number of muscles in each session. Therefore, they are minimally traumatic and very effective in helping to achieve good physical shape.
Functional training is different in that the exercises use movements that are performed in everyday life. For example, climbing stairs, getting the seasoning you need from the top shelf in the kitchen, or tying your shoelaces with a squat. All these actions require muscular activity, which is the heart of functional training. Of course it needs to be repeated in an accelerated manner and several times in a row.
At first glance, functional training does not seem like something hard or difficult. But, in reality, it requires a tremendous effort. Provided that the exercises are performed correctly and at a given pace, in one workout, you can burn up to 1500 kcal. But the main feature of functional training is the development of deep muscles, which normally are not involved in more usual training. These muscles are responsible for stability, skeleton support. Ultimately they are the basis of any movement. During functional training, a large number of muscle groups are involved in the session. Also, an optimal load is created on the entire skeletal system and ligament bundles, which contributes to harmonious physical development.
